Darkside + Tensor: (Re-)Purpose
1.29

Darkside continues to make music to feed his soul and hopes that his listeners can connect to the stories he tells. As a survivor of sexual abuse, music has helped him begin the healing process that has led him to where he is today. This song is a benchmark on that healing road.

The underlying message of this song is that your pain and trauma do not define who you are as a person and life can get better if you do the work of healing. This song’s purpose is to let listeners get a glimpse into what someone goes through as a victim of abuse and to also demonstrate to those who have experienced similar traumas that they are not alone and that healing is possible. Life is for the living…

About DARKSIDE

Darkside is a 40 year old M.C. from North East Los Angeles, Highland Park to be exact. He has been a hip hop head since he was 10 years old and has been spitting since he was 12. Darkside watched the burgeoning LA underground scene grow during hip hop’s “Golden Era” of the 1990’s. Darkside is a survivor of sexual abuse he experienced at a young age. Through music he was able to begin the healing process that has led him to where he is today. A high school English teacher by day, Darkside continues to make music to feed his soul and hopes that his listeners can connect to the stories he tells. All of his experiences on the road to healing have led him to this point in his life where he is no longer covering the wound of his childhood, but has allowed him to deal directly with the trauma. ‘(Re-)Purpose’ is a benchmark on that healing road.

The sonic landscape crafted by East Coast producer Tensor, who is also a member of the #Hardw3rk crew, a collective of producers and M.C. from around the globe and of which Darkside is also a member, enabled the veteran M.C. to bare his soul and expose his wounds in hopes of being a beacon of light for those struggling with the same issues.
